The time you turned 1

You had THREE birthday parties: 1 in Holmdel, two in Philadelphia. The most special for me was the one on your birthday, when you walked back and forth and back and forth, babbling and laughing and making silly, goofy, squinchy faces, while your mom and I talked about you and cupcakes and other grown-up stuff.

The other parties were super special, but you were a little stunned the whole time. All those big, tall bodies and loud voices looking down at you. A bunch of people went for a walk with you around the block so you'd sleep. And you did. You slept for while. But when you woke up, we were all still there. And you did not look happy about it. You looked puzzled, weary, curious, annoyed, and just tired and overwhelmed. You looked SO cute.

You are Neph 1 (year old)

The time we were in Maine

You were TWO WEEKS away from walking. Your dad and I read A LOT -- it was his last week of summer vacation before starting work. Your mom played with you A LOT. Your uncle Matt visited for a few days and played with you A LOT. We all played with you.

You had a bath in the sink and didn't want to put your legs down.

You hated the beach on the first day and loved it after that.

You ate ICE CREAM!

You took lots of naps and your mom and I napped next to you.

The day we drove to Maine

You were my ride pal. Me and mom and you in the back seat was the most fun ever. We stopped in Jersey to take you great-great-Nanna out to lunch. Your had a fish sandwich. I had a greek salad. You mom...don't remember...But we split french fries. You ate some mush, maybe. Then we dropped Nanna off and hit the road.

When you cried, we sang Bingo.
When you cried and wouldn't stop, we stopped in Hartford and had a picnic at an old folk's home.
You talked to Daddy, your grandfather, on the phone. He calmed you down.

It was some good fun stuff in that car.
